Can't post proposal...so putting it in comments! Shelley
I would like to present on the issue of the larynx in theory, pedagogy and practice in classical singing. This will begin with a study of the actual function and movement of the larynx while singing. It may vary between voice types, range, or musical styles, and I will attempt to find a justification of what might be the ideal position for each one. Secondly, I will discuss the various schools of thought on teaching about the larynx, beginning with the “coup de glotte” through soft and balanced onsets, as well as other beliefs. This discussion may also involve the opposing schools of thought on singing focusing on “placement” and what effect this may have on the larynx, various singers and idea of the larynx shown either in interviews or in practice, vowel and consonant formation originating in the larynx, and the idea of “grounding” between breath and the larynx.
